Tamara Burlando
Collaborations have become a big part of my practice. In 2020 when the pandemic started, I was invited to collaborate on a project with other local artists in Mbantwe.
At the beginning of 2021, due to feeling isolated and far away from my homeland, I decided it would be a great year to connect with other artists who speak the same language. I wanted to exchange ideas and feel supported and understood.
Since then, Sur_Sur Collective has been one of my refuges where I can go and knock on a door, knowing that on the other side, another like-minded artist will be receptive to share and discuss ideas and explore different avenues of art practice.
Being part of a collective has been a great addition to my practice.
It enriches my views, expands my horizons, and makes me feel heard.
It also made me a better listener, receptive and available to support others entering their creative practice.
Working together is a privilege and an inspiration.
Thanks to this experience, I'm more open to collaborating with others on joint projects.
